My friends, is it just me or does time seem to speed up in December? The countdown to Christmas begins and we enter a blur of parties, mince pies, mulled wine, and all things festive. So much indulgence. So much fun! I love it, but as the pace increases I do find it easy to get a little frazzled. When that happens those moments where I can slooooow down become that much more precious.
This week’s video is to help you in those moments. It’s just a little something to punctuate the rush and let you relax and restore and get yourself present again for all the fun ahead. Try it now or tuck it away for later – it’s on my YouTube channel, so it’s always there if ever you need it.
In my classes I get asked about bad backs more often than any other body part. I actually started yoga in the first place to manage my own back issues so I have a lot of empathy for anyone who is struggling with their back. Often just a good stretch is enough to get some relief but for a longer term solution we need a more holistic approach.
First that means developing the core, then, and almost as important, is making sure our glutes are giving us the support we need. That means you need to get your bum moving!
A powerful posterior brings so many benefits. It stabilises the pelvis, frees up the hip flexors, and supports the lower back, hips, and knees. It also looks sexy!
When it comes to working out the bottom one of the great things is that just getting up and going for a walk counts as a workout. If you want to push things squats, lunges, and burpees are all great. I know those don’t appeal to everyone though so my hack for working out the bum when time (or motivation) is limited is very simply a quick walk up the stairs.
Just doing that will work out some of the largest muscle groups in the body, improve cardiovascular endurance, and help give you the bum you and your back deserve. So leave the lift and take the stairs!
